//Product: Eco Bench
//Stage: 2nd Year (2006/07)
This project explores sustainable design. The purpose was to create a product made completely from recycled materials. The sector I chose to design for was 'public spaces'. My final design is a modern park bench made entirely from recycled material.

The bench is made from only two materaials. A thick, strong shell is made from recycled plastic through blow moulding. This structure is then covered in a soft skin of rubber made from reformed tyres, like the soft bouncy surface of a children's playground.

The shape of the bench encorporates a drainage system for the removal of any rain water. The bench however still remains in one piece as to aide production.

The design is a far cry from the archetypal park benche. However, I believe progression is required and more modern aesthetics must not be overlooked in the name of tradition.
